Coastal park, not a fenced square
Orłowo is Gdynia’s postcard: a wooden pier, a clay cliff, and Park Kolibki stretching inland with trees and play spots. It is brilliant on a clear day and tiring if you pretend it is a flat city park. Families do best when they choose either the pier-and-ice-cream loop or the park playground, not both at toddler pace.
Wind, shade, and toilets
The cliff path is exposed. Bring a layer even in June. Shade is better inside Kolibki than on the beach promenade. Toilets are easier near the pier and seasonally busy beach facilities than halfway along the cliff. On ParkConnect, mark wind and “no fence toward water” so the next parent is not surprised.
Tri-city stacking
Gdynia, Sopot, and Gdańsk sit in a line. For City Icons, Neptune is in Gdańsk’s Długi Targ — that is a separate trip. For 52 Parks, log Orłowo’s play area and a quieter Gdynia courtyard on another day. Do not count the beach walk as a playground visit unless you actually used a play set.
Parent tips
- The cliff can be closed after rain — have a Kolibki playground backup.
- Pier planks plus a stroller is doable; the steep forest stairs are not.
- Golden hour photos are lovely; playground shade is better at midday.
